A think tank recently ranked the Birmingham-Hoover metro statistical area (MSA) as one of the worst performing large cities in the country, but some local officials question the data.

The ranking by the Milken Institute may not reflect job growth and wage increases in the works for the last few years, according to Jefferson County Economic Development Advisor Jefferson Traywick.
