Remains found at Cheaha State Park site where camper went missing: Sheriff

Human remains were found Wednesday in an area of Cheaha State Park where a camper disappeared in September, authorities said Friday.

The remains were found following hours of searching by a Clay County Sheriff’s Office cadaver team that included a specially trained dog, the office said.

The remains were turned over to the Clay County Coroner’s Office and are being sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, the sheriff’s office said.

Further information on the discovery was not released. Authorities said the investigation was ongoing as of late Friday afternoon.
