Remains found in truck registered to man reported missing 11 years ago in Alabama

Human remains were discovered Friday morning inside a truck registered to a man reported missing more than a decade ago in north Alabama, authorities said.

The truck, found in Weiss Lake at Chestnut Bay, was registered to Oscar Lewis King, a Centre man reported missing from Cherokee County in late 2013, said Sheriff Jeff Shaver.

King, a native of Texas, was 74 at the time of his disappearance.

A fisherman reported what he thought was a vehicle when law enforcement offficer began looking for the truck, Shaver said.

Human remains were found inside the vehicle, the sheriff said.

The remains are being sent to a forensics lab for identity confirmation, said Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Josh Summerford.

Jacksonville State’s Center for Applied Forensics and ALEA’s Marine Patrol assisted Sheriff’s Office personnel in the recovery.

Shaver said King went missing about the same time as his 2001 blue Dodge Dakota truck, which had an Alabama disability license plate.

At the time, family members said he left his glasses and medication behind.
