Motorcyclist killed in Birmingham wreck was ‘shining light’ at Barber museum

The motorcyclist killed Tuesday following a wreck in Birmingham was a “shining light” at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, where she worked as the organization’s education coordinator.

Wendy Sue Jantz, 52, died when she lost control of her motorcycle on Elton B. Stephens Expressway and dropped to the roadway below around 9:14 p.m. on I-59/20 at the expressway, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Jantz was on the entrance ramp from I-59/20 southbound to the ramp when she lost control and struck a concrete barrier.

She then fell over the barrier to the road below.

Jantz was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday on 25th Street North at Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Boulevard.

Birmingham police are investigating.

“Since 2021, Wendy has been a shining light in the organization, greeting each day and each person with a loving heart and warm smile,” the museum said in a Facebook post.

“Wendy led the museum’s education department, crafting the school, scouts, and Design Camp programs. Her love of children and education was clear through every heart she touched,” the post went on to say.

“We extend our condolences to Wendy’s children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. She is missed and loved.”
