17-year-old intentionally pushes 6-year-old girl into fire, mother burned saving her, Baldwin County Sheriff says

A 17-year-old male intentionally pushed a 6-year-old girl into a fire Sunday afternoon, causing the girl and her mother to suffer significant injuries, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to Claremont Drive in unincorporated Foley around 4:30 p.m. to investigate a domestic incident.

Deputies found the girl and her mother across the street at a neighbor’s house.

“Both were suffering from significant burns and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. They are in stable condition currently,” a sheriff’s office statement reads.

The teen, who lives at the incident location, intentionally pushed the child into the fire, the sheriff’s office said. Her mother suffered burns while rescuing her daughter from the flames.

The sheriff’s office said it is unclear what led to the incident. “Our investigators are actively following leads to determine exactly what occurred,” the statement continued.

The teen has been charged with attempted murder and assault and is in custody.

“There are no other threats in that area,” the sheriff’s office said.
