A 25-year-old Northport woman was under the influence of marijuana and distracted by her cell phone when she caused a deadly head-on crash in Tuscaloosa County last year, according to court records.

Zoe Raine Moore is charge with manslaughter in the 2022 death of 41-year-old Tiffiney N. Barger. She is also charged with first-degree assault for injuries caused to Barger’s two young sons in the wreck.

The crash happened at 1:09 p.m. Aug. 4 on Highway 43 in Northport.

Charging documents against Moore said she was driving a Hyundai Elantra northbound on U.S. 43 when she crossed the center line and continued traveling northbound in the southbound lane.

She collided head on with Barger’s Toyota Camry. Barger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two sons were seriously injured.

Moore was also injured.

Records state toxicology tests showed Moore was under the influence of marijuana. Cell phone analysis by the Joint Electronic Crimes Task Force showed she was distracted by use of her cell phone which cited as a contributing factor in the deadly crash.

Alabama State Troopers investigated the wreck and conducted the subsequent investigation.

Moore was booked into jail Monday and released the same day after posting $70,000 bond.

Barger’s obituary described her as a king, caring, loving person.

“She never met a stranger and was always eager to help anyone in need. In June of 2011, Tiffiney met the love of her life, Michael Poe,’’ according to the obituary. “The two would have two sons, fulfilling Tiffiney’s dream of being a mom. She was a very kind, nurturing mom that loved her sons with all her heart. She will be missed by all that knew her.”
