Seattle Seahawks finalize Ryan Grubb, Scott Huff hires from Alabama

The NFL’s Seattle Seahawks made it official Tuesday. Former Alabama football offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff are making the move to the professional level without ever coaching a game for the Crimson Tide.

Grubb and Huff had both initially followed new UA head coach Kalen DeBoer from his previous job at Washington, when he took over for the retired Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa. Then, they opted to remain in Seattle, under new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald.

“He’s been on my radar, watching his teams perform, throughout the season, obviously thinking that a situation like this might come about,” Macdonald said of Grubb in a Seahawks news release. “Then getting to know him throughout the process, the type of guy he is, he’s been a winner everywhere he’s been.

“I just think it speaks to his football character, things that him and Kalen have over time—everywhere they’ve gone they’ve really rebuilt the culture where they’ve been and they’ve won immediately. Having that type of growth mindset, being able to adapt to the players that he has, and his scheme, I just respect what his offense looks like.”

Grubb followed DeBoer to Alabama after initially vying to take over as head coach of the Huskies. He and DeBoer coached together at various stops during their careers, dating back to Sioux Falls.

Huff spanned three coaches during his tenure with the Huskies. He built the Washington unit into a Joe Moore Award winner last season, which goes to the top offensive line in the nation.

According to multiple reports, Alabama tight ends coach Nick Sheridan will take over for Grubb with the Crimson Tide.
