Mardi Gras may be ending, but a property currently for sale in Mobile offers an opportunity to keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive year-’round.

Known as The Mardi Gras House, the 3,269-square-foot Victorian home is on the market for $559,900, according to Realtor.com. It’s being marketed by Chrissi D. Moore with Roberts Brothers West.

The three-story home was built in 1899 and designed by architect James Hutchinson. It was originally built by Frank Petrinovich, an accountant who worked for the City of Mobile, for use as a boarding house and for many years was known as the Petrinovich Boarding House, located at 504 Church Street in downtown Mobile.

The house serves as a showcase of the “painted lady” home and the vibrant colors which call to mind Mardi Gras led to it ultimately becoming known to Mobilians as The Mardi Gras House. It also sits in close proximity to Mobile’s annual Mardi Gras parades, as well as the Mardi Gras Museum and other city attractions and landmarks.

The house features five bedrooms and 5 full bathrooms, including a full bath in the walk-up attic, according to the listing. There’s a wraparound porch, two balconies, 11-foot ceilings on the first and second floors, and “abundant natural light from oversized windows.”

The interior also has a grand foyer, traditional living room and dining room, fully-equipped kitchen, pantry, laundry, and an additional half-bath on the first floor.

The hardwood flooring throughout much of the home includes the original 120-year-old flooring on the second floor. The kitchen, laundry, foyer and most of the bathrooms have ceramic tile flooring.

Many of the various rooms have names, including Magnolia, Wisteria, Camellia, Azalea and Jasmine. The Magnolia room was originally a sitting room, but was at some point transitioned to a private bedroom with full bath.

The home underwent major renovations between 2012-2015, according to the B&B website, to provide modern amenities alongside its historic elements.

According to the listing, the home last sold for $113,000, prior to the extensive renovations.
