Lawyers for Casey White withdraw bid to move him to Cullman County jail

Lawyers for Casey Cole White are no longer requesting that the accused killer be moved to Cullman County Jail.

In a motion filed this morning, White’s attorneys stated that housing White in the county jail “is no longer a viable option.”

Last month, his lawyers asked the court to transfer White from Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer. The motion said the transfer was needed as the defense team prepared for the Dec. 12 trial.

Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Benjamin Graves had scheduled a hearing on a counter motion from prosecutors about the move for Oct. 11. Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said there had been an apparent miscommunication “between the sheriff and defense counsel regarding the necessity for the defendant to be housed in Cullman County.”

Casey White will now be arraigned on Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. in Florence on the felony murder charge relating to the death of Vicky White, the Lauderdale County jailer who assisted Casey White in his escape in April. She took her own life as law enforcement closed in on the two May 9 in Indiana, at the end of an 11-day manhunt.

White currently has a pending capital murder case scheduled for December in the murder of Connie Ridgeway of Rogersville in 2015. White was charged in her death in 2020 and was in the Lauderdale jail awaiting trial when he escaped.

Graves is considering a motion to make the December trial on the felony murder charge in connection with the death of Vicky White.
