Biden appoints Fairhope native, first Black chair of energy regulatory body
President Joe Biden named Willie Philips, Jr., a native of Fairhope and graduate of the University of Montevallo, as chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) last week, the White House announced.
Philips was confirmed to serve on the commission in 2021 and has been acting chair since January 2023. He is the first Black person to lead the commission.
