One person was killed and two others injured when a vehicle crossed a grassy median Saturday night and struck an oncoming passenger car, according to the Athens Police Department,

The crash happened at 8:05 p.m. on U.S. 72 East, in the area of Line Road, according to Capt. Brett M. Constable.

Two people were taken to Athens Limestone Hospital.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West arrived and pronounced one person deceased.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was travelling West bound on US 72. This vehicle crossed a grassy median and struck an oncoming (East bound) passenger car. This crash remains under investigation,” Constable wrote in a press release.
