Terrel Johnson scored 20 points and Pete Jones had 17 as No. 4 Vigor defeated LeFlore 75-54 to win the Class 5A, Area 2 tournament at Vigor on Thursday night.

Al Holcombe added 12 points for the Wolves.

“Once again our defense carried us through the night,” Vigor coach Jairus Jackson said. “We came together and played good team defense. We also shot the ball well from the outside. Terrel Johnson led the way for us and carried us on his back.”

Vigor (24-6) will host a sub-regional game on Saturday, while LeFlore must travel.

CLASS 7A

Area 1: Baker 66, Mary G. Montgomery 62

Three was the magic number for the Baker Hornets on Thursday night.

Baker beat rival MGM for the third time this season and won its third straight area title.

Tournament MVP Desmond Williams scored 20 points, while Derrick Florence added 19 and Dashawn Thomas had 14. The Hornets improved to 24-7 overall.

Williams and Thomas each made clutch free throws in the waning moments after MGM made a fourth-quarter push.

MGM’s Zion Hunter led all scorers with 24. Jermiah Bolton had 10 for the Vikings (23-5).

Both teams advance to the regional tournament next Wednesday at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery. Baker will play JAG at 10:30 a.m. and MGM will play Enterprise at 1:30 p.m.

Area 6: Chelsea 58, Oak Mountain 48

Chelsea, the fourth seed in the area tournament, scored a second straight upset win and claimed the area title.

Avery Futch went 12-for-12 from the free throw line and finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Gavin Collett followed with 15 and Jaxon Shuttlesworth added 8 points.

Chelsea upset top-seeded Spain Park in the semifinals.

Area 2: Fairhope 74, Daphne 47

McRae Taul had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Pirates defeated Daphne for the third time this season.

Alabama commit Spence Sims added 19 points and Zeb Gafford had 16.

Fairhope improved to 21-5 with the win. Both teams advanced to the regional tournament next week.

Area 5: Hoover 77, Thompson 59

DeWayne Brown had 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Bucs (26-3) won the area title.

Salim London added 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Jarrett Fairley scored 18 as well. Jackson Sheffield had 11 points and 8 reobunnds.

Both teams advance to the regional at Wallace State next week.

CLASS 6A

Area 1: Murphy 63, Theodore 57

Cordairus Dixon led three Murphy players in double figures with 15 points as the Panthers upset homestanding Theodore to win the area title.

Jayden Mangram followed with 13 points and DJ Johnson had 12.

Murphy will host Carver-Montgomery on Saturday in sub-regional play, while Theodore will travel to play at Sidney Lanier.

CLASS 5A

Area 9: Fairfield 69, Wenonah 44

Fairfield (25-2) outscored Wenonah 25-12 in the third quarter on the way to the area title.

Jody Jones led Fairfield with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 10 steals. DeMarcus Williams added 12 .points.

Wenonah dropped to 14-16.

Area 10: Ramsay 74, Carver-Birmingham 59

Tournament MVP Jayden Williams had 38 points, 15 assists, 11 rebounds and 6 steals in two games as Ramsay won its sixth straight area title.

The Rams (21-8) will host East Limestone on the sub-regional round at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Area 9: Midfield 75, Childersburg 46

Brandon Riddle had 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists as Midfield won the area title.

Aaron Adams-Martin also had 24 points to go along with 4 steals.

DuJuan McKinney followed with 16 points and 3 steals.

Dylan Davis had 29 points and 14 rebounds for Brantley in a losing effort.

Jayden Parks scored 16 and Jon Harper Kilcrease 15 for the Bulldogs (16-10).
