Tua Tagovailoa, Calvin Ridley get Comeback Award votes
Former Alabama standouts Tua Tagovailoa finished fifth and Calvin Ridley finished seventh in the voting for The Associated Press NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award for the 2023 season.
On Thursday night, Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco won the award, even though he received eight fewer first-place votes than Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. But Flacco outpointed Hamlin 151-140.
Flacco received 13 first-place votes, 26 second-place votes and eight third-place votes. Hamlin received 21 first-place votes, seven second-place votes and 14 third-place votes. Vote values were five points for first, three for second and one for third.
Tagovailoa collected four first-place votes and one third-place vote for 21 points. He also finished behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield with 93 points and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford with 30 points.
Ridley collected one second-place vote for three points. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy finished between Tagovailoa and Ridley.
Eleven players received votes for the Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Tagovailoa was named the winner of The Sporting News NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award for the 2023 season, which is chosen by the league’s players, coaches and executives.
The Pro Football Writers of America selected Hamlin as the winner of its NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award for the 2023 season.
