Hank Williams Jr. to perform in two Alabama amphitheaters this spring

Iconic country music star Hank Williams Jr. will hit two major Alabama venues this spring, according to a newly released list of 2023 tour dates.

Williams will be touring with Old Crow Medicine Show “and a few more friends,” according to Tuesday’s announcement.

The new dates start with a May 12 (Friday) performance at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, followed by a May 13 (Saturday) show at The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach. Pre-sales begin Wednesday, with general ticket sales starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, for the two Alabama shows.

According to Birmingham-based Red Mountain Entertainment, ticket prices for the Tuscaloosa show will be $35, $59.75, $79.75 and $99.75 via Ticketmaster. Price points for the Orange Beach show will be $49.75, $59.75, $69.75, $79.75 and $99.75, also available through Ticketmaster. Additional fees apply.

Williams’ most recent album is “Rich White Honky Blues,” released last summer. It’s a rough, rowdy and occasionally raunchy tribute to blues artists such as R.L. Burnside, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Jimmy Reed, on which Williams sometimes assumes the alter ego of Thunderhead Hawkins.

Tuesday’s announcement didn’t specify how the new material (or the Thunderhead persona) might be worked into the shows alongside Williams’ classic outlaw country material.
