Spanish Fort man found dead in cell at Baldwin County Jail
A 26-year-old Spanish Fort man was found dead in his cell inside the Baldwin County Jail Friday, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
During a routine safety check, corrections officers found Brandon Tyrell Prince unresponsive in his cell. Officers and medical staff immediately began life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived.
EMS personnel performed additional life-saving measures, but Prince was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office says initial investigation indicates there are no signs of foul play and Prince was alone in his cell at the time.
Prince was incarcerated in Dec. 26, charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and two counts of probation violation.
The sheriff’s office has requested the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit conduct an independent review of Prince’s death, standard protocol when a subject dies while in custody.
