Iowa will self-report NCAA violation regarding Kadyn Proctor: Report

Iowa football will self-report a Level III violation to the NCAA related to former Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor according to a report from The Athletic. According to the Thursday report, a Hawkeye staffer texted Proctor during the 2023 season, which could be impermissible contact.

Proctor left Alabama during a transfer portal window created by former head coach Nick Saban’s retirement. He chose Iowa, which he had been committed to during his high school recruitment before flipping to the Crimson Tide at the last minute.

The former five-star recruit attended an Iowa basketball game after committing to the Hawkeyes, and gave a television interview that raised tampering questions.

“We still have those relationships,” Proctor, an Iowa native, told WQAD in January. “Even after I was doing bad in the SEC and struggling, they hit me up and said ‘We’re proud of you, you’re gonna get through this.’ And that’s what ultimately helped me with my decision.”

According to the report, the text to Proctor read “hang in there, buddy.”

Starting at left tackle as a true freshman, Proctor struggled early in the season, along with the rest of Alabama’s line. His play improved throughout the 2023 campaign, which ended with a loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Level III violations are the second-lowest level under the current NCAA structure. They count as “breach of conduct” violations that create a minimal advantage in recruiting or competition.
