South Alabama’s Richie Riley won’t coach Thursday night

South Alabama basketball coach Richie Riley will miss Thursday night’s game at Texas State following the death of his mother, the school announced.

The Jaguars also play at Louisiana on Saturday, though it’s possible Riley could be back for that game, according to an athletic department spokesman. Associate head coach Rodney “Rock” Crawford will serve as acting head coach until Riley’s return.

Riley’s mother, Alice Faye Riley, died last Saturday at age 76. Her funeral services are set for Friday in Corbin, Ky.

South Alabama is 10-11 overall this season, 3-6 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Jaguars have lost three straight games heading into Thursday night’s game, which tips off at 7 p.m.
