Alabama woman with possible medical episode dies when car catches fire after driving into wall

A 75-year-old woman died in Marshall County following a fire Tuesday night.

The Marshall County Coroner’s Office said fire crews responded to a fire at around 7 p.m. at 1341 Point of Pines, in Guntersville.

The body of Tana Broadbent, 75, was found inside a car behind the home’s detached garage, Coroner Cody Nugent said.

Investigators believe Broadbent suffered a medical episode, which led her to drive her vehicle through the back wall of the garage. The collision damaged the vehicle’s fuel line, igniting a fire that spread to the garage, Nugent said.

There are no indications of foul play in the incident, the coroner’s office said in a statement. The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Guntersville, Georgia Mountain and 4C fire crews responded to the fire.
