A 24-year-old man has been criminal charged authorities say he plowed his Tesla into a Mountain Brook home in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, leaving catastrophic damage.

Wilder Jackson Williams, of Mountain Brook, is charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, speeding and improper lane usage. The criminal charges are misdemeanor crimes.

Police said Williams driving more than 100 miles per hour when he crashed into the home.

He surrendered to Mountain Brook police Wednesday and was released on bond.

The wreck happened at 2:25 a.m. that Monday in the 700 block of Euclid Avenue, which is in the Crestline community.

The vehicle left the roadway and slammed in the house, entering on the driveway side of the home and coming to a rest after crashing through an adjacent wall near the back deck.

The driver of the vehicle – now identified as Williams – was trapped inside the wreckage, said Mountain Brook Police Chief Jaye Loggins said. He was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed appeared to be a factor.

A family was inside the home at the time, but fortunately their bedrooms were on the opposite side of the house.

“It could have been disastrous,’’ Loggins said.
