After years of planning, the Africatown Redevelopment Corporation broke ground on a brand new home on Newman Lane, the first of several affordable housing developments.

This week’s ground breaking also marks the beginning of the corporation’s first major project benefiting their mission. ARC’s goal is to improve housing and commerce within Africatown, an impoverished community that once had over 12,000 residents but today has less than 2,000.
