Meet Alabama’s 12 best HS football players for 2023
For the second straight year, Saraland 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams highlights the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Super All-State team.
The Super All-State team represents the 12 best high school football players in the state of Alabama for the 2023 football season regardless of classification or position.
Class 7A champ Central-Phenix City, Class 6A champ Clay-Chalkville and Saraland each had two players on the squad, which included eight seniors and four juniors. (Williams played as a junior in 2023 but has since reclassified and is in the Class of 2024).
ASWA prep committee members were asked to vote 1-12 with No. 1 being their vote for Mr. Football. Here is the 2023 Super All-State team:
Ryan Williams, WR, Saraland (Junior*)
Williams is now a two-time Mr. Football – the first in Alabama — a two-time Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year and a two-time Class 6A Back of the Year. He won’t have a chance to go for three in any of those categories since he reclassified into the Class of 2024. This season, he caught 71 passes for 1,320 yards and 19 TDs, rushed for 269 yards and seven scores, threw a touchdown pass and returned both a punt and kickoff for TDs. He helped Saraland to a 29-1 record in his two Mr. Football seasons.
