Former UAB center staying in NBA, but with new team
Trey Jemison’s 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards was up on Monday. But the former UAB center isn’t returning to the NBA G League. Jemison is staying in the NBA.
The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Tuesday that Jemison had signed a 10-day contract.
The Grizzlies also signed forward Matthew Hurt to a 10-day contract on Monday and forward Tosan Evbuomwan to a 10-day contract on Tuesday. Hurt scored 10 points in his NBA debut on Monday night in a 103-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
Four of Memphis’ top five scorers missed Monday’s game as the Grizzlies endure an epidemic of injuries. The NBA granted Memphis three hardship roster exemptions to allow the Grizzlies to sign extra players after 11 didn’t play on Monday.
Memphis has an 18-29 record and hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7 p.m. CST Thursday in its next game.
With the Wizards, Jemison got 1:29 of court time in two games and recorded his first NBA rebound. He did not take a shot.
Jemison joined the Wizards from the Birmingham Squadron on Jan. 20. In 25 games with the NBA G League team this season, Jemison averaged 10.9 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots and made 56.8 percent of his shots.
An Alabama prep star at Homewood and Hoover, Jemison played two seasons at Clemson and three at UAB. He set the Blazers’ single-season record with 329 rebounds in the 2022-23 campaign.
