Moody man was on phone with 911 when killed in shooting that also hurt wife; judge grants son bond
A 61-year-old St. Clair County man killed in a shooting that also injured his wife was on the phone with 911 at the time of his death, court records show.
The new details were released Tuesday in a judge’s order granting the suspect – the couple’s 36-year-old son – bond.
John Adam Bowlin is charged with murder in the death of his father, John D. Bowlin, and attempted murder in the wounding of 60-year-old Connie L. Bowlin.
Moody police were dispatched at 11 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, to a possible domestic assault on Lee Green Road.
According to court documents, John Adam Bowlin entered his parents’ home that night and assaulted his father. The father then called 911 to report the assault.
While he was on the phone with police, he was fatally shot.

Connie L. Bowlin was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with gunshot wound to the arm.
Moody police and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team took John Adam Bowlin into custody at a home in the 800 block of Argo Margaret Road.
A search warrant at that home, records state, turned up a bloody t-shirt and sock. Investigators also found blue gloves similar to gloves found in a vehicle used by John Adam Bowlin that was found at the shooting scene.
He was booked into the St. Clair County Jail at 2:38 a.m. on Jan. 23.
John Adam Bowlin was temporarily denied bond under Aniah’s Law pending a full hearing, which was held Tuesday.
St. Clair County prosecutors argued that John Adam Bowlin presents a real and present danger to himself, his community, and his mother.
St. Clair County District Judge Alan Furr, however, set bond for the suspect totaling $500,000 on the two cases.
If released, John Adam Bowlin must wear an ankle monitor through St. Clair County Corrections. He is also prohibited from possessing a gun and from having contact with his mother.
