2 more former Alabama players join Pro Bowl Games

Two more former Alabama standouts have been chosen as roster replacements for the Pro Bowl Games.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly joined the NFL’s annual all-star event as replacements for players who are headed for Super Bowl LVIII.

Hurts is taking the spot of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on the NFC roster, and Kelly is taking the spot of Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey on the AFC roster.

Four former Crimson Tide players have been chosen as replacements since the original Pro Bowl Games lineups were announced. Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. joined the AFC roster after Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby had knee surgery, and Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs joined the NFC roster with 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey going to Super Bowl LVIII.

Kelly also was a Pro Bowler in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Hurts was a Pro Bowler last season, but he did not participate because the Eagles reached Super Bowl LVII.

Nine players from Alabama high schools and colleges were originally selected as Pro Bowl Games all-stars for the NFL’s 2023 season:

· Jacksonville Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen (Abbeville)

· Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper (Alabama)

· Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson (Alabama)

· Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama)

· Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (Alabama)

· Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama)

· Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II (Alabama)

· Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama)

· New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (Wenonah, Alabama)

Cooper withdrew because of an injury.

Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown (Auburn) was added as an injury replacement to the NFC roster.

Last season, the NFL eliminated the Pro Bowl game and replaced it with the Pro Bowl Games, a skills competition and flag-football contest for the selected players.

The 7-on-7 flag football game featuring the Pro Bowl players will be held on Sunday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, as the culmination of a multi-day AFC vs. NFC competition in which all-stars will demonstrate their football and non-football skills in a variety of events.
