Missing hunter found after 18-hour search in North Alabama

Several agencies collaborated in an 18-hour search for a missing man in Colbert County that came to a successful conclusion Monday.

The Colbert Sheriff’s Office said a hunter was reported missing at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the New Bethel community.

Using the hunter’s last known location as a starting place, deputies and members of the New Bethel Volunteer Fire Dept. began a search that initally proved unsuccessful.

When the search resumed at daybreak, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) sent up an aircraft with thermal imaging.

After 18 hours, the sheriff’s office said, the hunter was found in good condition and received medical treatment from Keller EMS as a precaution.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office also helped in the search.
