Jets’ Quinnen Williams puts Cinderella at quarterback

The New York Jets used four starting quarterbacks while compiling a 7-10 record in the 2023 NFL season.

Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has another quarterback for New York – Cinderella.

“She’s a GOAT,” Williams said. “She’s one of the OG’s.”

Williams’ evaluation of Cinderella came from a video feature for the Jets’ official website during which the former Alabama All-American was asked to assign football positions to Disney and Marvel characters.

Williams put Cinderella at quarterback. But in the 2024 season, New York hopes to have Aaron Rodgers there.

The Jets hoped that in 2023, too. But after coming to New York in an April trade with the Green Bay Packers, the four-time NFL MVP ruptured his left Achilles tendon and missed the remainder of the season.

Although he didn’t play again, Rodgers did return to practice on Nov. 29.

“He’s unbelievable, man,” Williams said. “And to see the different things he’s done, the hard work he put in to be around this organization, around this team, all the focus, all the attention to detail he’s put in during this whole time being out and just the determination to come back and help this team out and help us out when he didn’t have to means a lot to us, means a lot to this organization, and it goes to show you the guy that he is and the person, the player he is.

“When he came back out there, he was a Hall Fame quarterback, MVP. It was amazing to see what we’re looking forward to toward the future and super happy to have him on our team.”

The Jets haven’t had a winning season since 2015 or been to the playoffs since 2010. While Rodgers’ injury quickly drained the optimism from New York’s 2023 season, it’s back for 2024.

“It’s frustrating ending the year not how you want to,” Williams said. “But the positive aspect of it is we do have a playoff team, we do have a playoff coaching staff, we do have a Super Bowl team, Super Bowl coaching staff.”

Williams earned selection for the Pro Bowl Games for the second straight season as the New York defense gave up the third-fewest yards in 2023. But only one team gained fewer yards on offense than the Jets did.

Still, Williams said he thinks New York is “super close” to championship contention.

“It’s definitely not where everybody in the organization wanted to be ending it or how we wanted end it,” Williams said. “But you definitely see the talent that we have on offense and defense and special teams, and the direction we’re going is going in the right direction. We just got to find a little few more pieces to plug in.”
