Nick Sabanâs old boogieboard video makes waves again as Alabama coach surfs into retirement
A video of Nick Saban boogieboarding in 2018 started making a splash again on Friday as Alabama fans –and the former coach’s daughter — shared it again on social media.
It’s must-see video, for sure, and worth the time, especially for Alabama fans happy to see the recently retired coach ride — or surf — into the sunset.
Saban’s daughter, Kristen Saban Setas, commented on the video as people tagged her in shares. “He is the moment,” she said on Instagram.
Setas confirmed on “X,” the social media platform known as Twitter, on Friday the video is from 2018. She also mentioned it isn’t her laugh on the video.

With that said, it’s not every day we see the seven-time national championship coach at the mercy of the Mother Nature. For sure, we saw him direct the Tide for 17 years. Here is an example of him trying to ride it, albeit a few years ago.
Here’s to more wave-riding, coach!
Earlier this week, Setas shared how she found out her father was retiring from Alabama after 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa. Even a heads up from Miss Terry didn’t prepare her for the realization he was done coaching.
“I got a text message from my mom the morning saying, ‘Hey, I just want to let you know we’ve been having conversations. We don’t know if it’s happening today for sure, but he’s kind of giving himself a timeline. So heads up,’” Setas told WVTM. “I was like, he won’t.”
Saban won six of his titles during his 17 seasons at Alabama. He won his first with LSU in 2003. His Tide teams were ranked No. 1 in the AP poll in 15 straight seasons, breaking the old record of seven held by Miami.
