Mobile sheriff: Couple stolen car, robbed home, shot at victim with kids in their car
A man and his female companion stole a car, robbed a Chunchula home, then fired at the homeowner who tried to follow them — all with the male suspect’s two young children in the backseat, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a residence on Catherine Street in Chunchula, an unincorporated community northwest of Mobile, Saturday afternoon on a report of a burglary and shots being fired into an occupied vehicle.
The homeowner told deputies she had pulled into her driveway and saw a gray SUV with a male driver and female passenger loading things from the homeowner’s residence into the SUV.
Once they spotted the homeowner, the suspects fled in the vehicle.
The homeowner attempted to follow the suspects, but stopped after the suspects fired at her, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies later located the suspects’ stolen SUV at a Chevron Station on Lott Road. The male suspect spotted the deputies, running inside the convenience store and attempting to escape through the back, but was apprehended by deputies.
The female suspect was taken into custody as she exited the store returning to the vehicle.
In the back seat of the suspect’s vehicle, deputies found the two children — ages 1 and 2 — along with drugs, guns and cash inside the car.
The two suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Brendon Blade Daniels, the children’s father, and 23-year-old Amber Nicole Chaney.
Daniels is charged with three counts of receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, attempt to elude, no driver’s license, resisting arrest, attempting to elude, burglary, reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle.
Chaney is charged with discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle, two counts of receiving stolen property, burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and reckless endangerment.
The sheriff’s office said Tuesday afternoon Daniels and Chaney may be tied to several other area car burglaries.
Daniels and Chaney both remained in Mobile Metro Jail as of Tuesday afternoon — Daniels held without bond pending a Thursday hearing; Chaney held under $24,000 bond.
The children were released to the custody of their mother.
