62-year-old suspect charged in deadly shooting at east Birmingham motel

A suspect has been charged in the November shooting death of a man at an east Birmingham motel.

Roderick Bell Christian, of Birmingham, is charged with murder in the slaying of 59-year-old Marcus Hill, according to court records made public Tuesday.

East Precinct officers were dispatched at 11:51 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, to the Roadway Inn and Suites at 9225 Parkway East.

When police arrived, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, they found Hill unresponsive on the third-floor balcony. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene at 12:12 p.m.

Wade at the time said it appeared the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect before the fatal shots were fired.

The suspect left the scene.

Christian, 62, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 12:55 p.m. Monday. He remains held without bond.
