Tuscaloosa bar on the Strip closed by court order
A court order has closed Unique bar on University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa.
Passersby can see the bar’s entrance closed with yellow “Caution” tape covering the door and several court documents explaining the closing. A grease board nearby still bears prices of drink specials.
According to court documents, the bar was ordered closed in December in Tuscaloosa Circuit Court following action by the Alabama Department of Labor against the bar’s owners, Royale Service and Hospitality.
The court fined the bar’s owners $3,100, plus court costs, for not providing proof of worker’s compensation insurance.
There is no word yet on when the bar may reopen. Attempts to contact the owners for comment were not immediately successful.
Unique opened in 2021, replacing Egan’s, a legendary dive bar located in the heart of the Strip after 42 years of operation.
