NFL playoffs: Chiefs advance after missed kick

Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed a 44-yard field-goal attempt with 1:43 to play as the Kansas City Chiefs held on for a 27-24 victory in an AFC playoff game on Sunday.

Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco’s 4-yard touchdown run produced the game’s fifth lead change as Kansas City went ahead by three with 14:20 to play.

In the remaining time, Kansas City stopped a fake punt and lost a fumble at the Buffalo 3-yard line before withstanding a 6:40 Bills’ drive that ended with the missed kick and the Chiefs’ sixth consecutive berth in the AFC Championship Game.

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes to tight end Travis Kelce, and Pacheco ran for 97 yards and one TD on 15 carries.

Buffalo QB Josh Allen ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and threw a touchdown pass.

The Bills finished with 368 yards (182 rushing, 186 passing), the Chiefs totaled 361 yards (146 rushing, 215 passing) and neither team produced a sack.

Buffalo had beaten Kansas City 20-17 in a regular-season game on Dec. 10 when Bass made a 39-yard field goal with 1:54 to play.

Three players from Alabama high schools and colleges got on the field during the Kansas City-Buffalo game:

· Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs (Alabama) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr. (Murphy) was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Bills running back Damien Harris (Alabama) is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Bills cornerback Siran Neal (Eufaula, Jacksonville State) did not record any stats.

· Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun (Samford) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs running back La’Mical Perine (Theodore) did not record any stats.

· Chiefs tight end Gerrit Prince (UAB) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs wide receiver Justyn Ross (Central-Phenix City) did not record any stats.

· Bills wide receiver Tyrell Shavers (Alabama) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (Blount) was designated as a game-day inactive. Toney hasn’t played since Dec. 17 because of hip and ankle injuries.

· Chiefs offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho (Edgewood Academy, Auburn) is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs wide receiver Montrell Washington (Samford) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

Buffalo won the AFC East with an 11-6 record during the regular season, then opened the playoffs by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 on Monday.

Kansas City won the AFC West with an 11-6 record during the regular season, then opened the playoffs by beating the Miami Dolphins 26-7 on Jan. 13.

The Chiefs will play the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game at 2 p.m. CST Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. CBS will televise the game.
