Fire at vacant Birmingham building sends plume of smoke over the city

Firefighter are battling a blaze that sent a plume of smoke over downtown Birmingham.

The fire broke out Sunday afternoon in a vacant, two-story building at 1331 First Avenue North.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Battalion Chief Clay Hendon said the structure has been empty for some time and has previously burned.

No injuries have been reported.
