Alabama, DeBoer add 2nd transfer from Washington in OL Parker Brailsford

Alabama football picked up a marquee transfer portal addition on Saturday.

Parker Brailsford, a center from Kalen DeBoer’s former program, Washington, announced his transfer to the Crimson Tide. He’s the second Huskie to follow DeBoer, joining freshman quarterback Austin Mack.

Brailsford was an All-Pac 12 Second Team selection and 2023 Freshman All-American First-Team honoree. Brailsford and Washington’s front won the 2023 Joe Moore Award, given to the nation’s best blocking unit. He started 13 of 15 games at center, the other two at right guard.

He arrived as a four-star prospect from Mesa, Arizona, and reaffirmed his commitment to Washington once DeBoer was hired two seasons ago. Brailsford did not play as a freshman in 2022. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

“I could tell right away that he really wanted to build a relationship with Parker,” Brailsford’s father, Phil Brailsford told Realdawg.com in 2022. “(DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb) told us how big they are on developing their players, and him they didn’t want to limit him to center, and wanted to make sure they developed him. They also emphasized that Washington is going to be a family environment.”

Alabama is replacing three starting offensive linemen this offseason, including both tackles (Kadyn Proctor and JC Latham) and center (Seth McLaughlin). Potential starter Terrence Ferguson left for Florida State following UA’s loss in the Rose Bowl to Michigan. UA fans will be eager to see Brailsford’s snapping ability, especially after McLaughlin’s issues sometimes torpedoed the offense.

Last month, Alabama welcomed Naquil Betrand, an offensive lineman from Texas A&M. It has five accepted transfers overall, including defensive back Domani Jackson and A&M defensive lineman LT Overton. DeBoer has had to manage a mass set of departures following the retirement of Nick Saban. UA players have through the first week of February to opt for the portal.

“I think that our guys, and I would tell this to fans as well, to be excited about the staff we’re bringing in and what we’re gonna be capable of doing. I’m really not alarmed at all,” DeBoer said when asked to ease fan concerns on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Friday.

According to Pro Football Focus’ player grades, Brailsford was tied for 10th (77.8). By comparison, Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran, a potential first-round NFL pick, was graded at 78%. McLaughlin ranked 202nd (59%).

Both of Washington’s guards who played alongside Brailsford, Nate Kalepo and Julius Buelow, are also in the transfer portal.
