Former Auburn defensive back Jaylin Simpson accepts invite to NFL Combine

Former Auburn defensive back Jaylin Simpson will be booked Feb. 27 through March 4 as he heads to Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium to participate in the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

The NFL Scouting Combine is an invite-only event that allows NFL scouts to evaluate some of the top draft-eligible players in the country.

Simpson’s invite comes on the heels of a 2023 season that saw him appear in 13 games, tally 36 total tackles and lead the team with four interceptions.

As Auburn’s starting safety in 2023, Simpson was named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and also collected midseason all-American honors from 10 different organizations, including Associated Press, ESPN, CBS Sports, USA Today, 247 Sports and Pro Football Focus. Simpson was also named to the all-SEC second team defense at the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.

The 2023 season was Simpson’s fifth at Auburn after he came to The Plains by way of Brunswick, Ga. as a true freshman in 2019. Throughout his career, Simpson tallied 116 total tackles and seven interceptions.

On Jan. 3, Simpson announced his plans to forego his final year of eligibility and officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

“As I set my sights on the 2024 NFL Draft, I carry the Auburn spirit with me. To my teammates, coaches and the entire Auburn community — thank you for making these years truly special,” Simpson wrote in a post to his Instagram. “Here’s to the memories made and the ones yet to come. War Eagle forever!”

Simpson is also set to appear in the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile on Feb. 3.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper ranks Simpson as the fourth-best safety in the approaching NFL Draft.
