Birmingham retiree Lynn Gannett-Malick says people who work in preschools are doing it for the love of the job and not the pay.

With a median annual wage of just above $21,000, Birmingham preschool teachers are one of the ten lowest paid positions in the metro, according to a recent Stacker study compiled from Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
