Miami tight end Cam McCormick returns for unprecedented ninth season; Here’s how

Miami’s Cam McCormick posted on social media he will return to school for an unprecedented ninth year of college football.

The tight end spent the first seven seasons of his career at Oregon. He made the announcement on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“The pursuit of excellence has no goal line … LAST RIDE.”

McCormick, who transferred to Miami ahead of the 2023 season, had eight catches for 62 yards on the season.

“I love my teammates, my coaches, and the University of Miami,” McCormick said in a release, per Oregon Live. “Despite the challenges, I want to finish what we started together. The bond we share is everlasting and makes it all worthwhile.”

Miami lists him as a redshirt senior, while others are designated as fourth-year or fifth year senior. College football insider Bruce Feldman posted McCormick was in the same high school recruiting class as Rashan Gary, Nick Bosa and Jalen Hurts.

He started at Oregon in 2016. Due to COVID-19 and season-ending injuries in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 extended McCormick’s eligibility.

Most notably, per Oregon Live, McCormick was one of three Ducks hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis in January 2017. A broken left ankle in the 2018 season opener against Bowling Green required three surgeries, and he tore his right Achilles against Ohio State in 2021.
