Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor intends to enter transfer portal
Alabama football suffered another major transfer portal entry on Wednesday. Left tackle Kadyn Proctor announced he plans to enter, hours after safety Caleb Downs reportedly did the same.
Proctor posted the news to his social media, alongside Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. He was the latest in a flurry of Crimson Tide players who have jumped into the portal following the retirement of Nick Saban and hiring of Kalen DeBoer as UA’s new head coach.
The former five-star prospect from Iowa started as a true freshman in 2023. He battled with Elijah Pritchett for the job throughout preseason camp the early part of the campaign, but eventually solidified himself as the starter.
Proctor struggled early on, but got better as the season went along, with Saban caulking the improvement up to experience.
“He’s getting better,” Saban said in November. “He’s playing better. He has more confidence. I think he knows what to do, and because of that confidence, he — he was apprehensive sometimes about doing what he was supposed to do even when he knew what he was supposed to do. All of that comes with confidence.”
The 6-foot-7, 360-pound Proctor was named to the SEC’s all-freshman team by the league’s coaches. He earned the conference’s freshman of the week award for his performance against Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
Alabama players got an extra 30-day window to enter the transfer portal due to Saban’s retirement. Athletics director Greg Byrne requested they give him 72 hours to hire a new head coach, which most players did.
Since DeBoer’s installation as head coach, and as he has put a staff together, players who once committed to play for Saban have begun to enter the portal.
