8 sentenced to federal prison for methamphetamine distribution in east Alabama city

Eight people have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a drug operation that distributed methamphetamine in the Phenix City area.

The sentencing hearings took place from June 2023 through last week and were announced Tuesday by Middle District of Alabama Acting U.S. Attorney Jonathan Ross.

The multi-agency investigation began in 2020 and covered east Alabama and west Georgia.

The probe was carried out by DEA, FBI, and police investigators from the Abbeville Police Department, the Auburn Police Department, the Eufaula Police Department, the Phenix City Police Department, and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.

Agencies assisting included the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, ALEA, the Alabama National Guard Counterdrug Program, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Millbrook Police Department, the Montgomery Police Department, the Prattville Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Muscogee County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office.

Those sentenced were:

•             On Jan. 8, 2024, Kahlia Nichelle Washington, 27, of Phenix City, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute after her July 11, 2023, conviction at trial.

•             On Dec. 27, 2023, Xavier Toombs, 35, of Phenix City, was sentenced to five years prison for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Toombs pleaded guilty to the charge on June 22, 2023.

•             On Dec. 1, 2023, 38-year-old Andre Tremayne Franklin, of Columbus, Ga., was sentenced to more than 26 years prison. A jury on July 11, 2023, a jury convicted Franklin of conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute the drug.

•             On Nov. 11, 2023, Justin Garrett, 31, also from Columbus, received 17 years in prison for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Garrett pleaded guilty to the charge on June 22, 2023.

•             On Oct. 25, 2023, 34-year-old Khourtney Jakeith Brown, of Phenix City, was sentenced to 21 years in prison conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Brown pleaded guilty to that charge on June 28, 2023.

•             On Oct. 6, 2023, Ryan Brown, 33, also from of Phenix City, received a sentence of nearly four years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Brown pleaded guilty on June 22, 2023.

•             On Oct. 6, 2023, 34-year-old Lorenzo Miles, of Columbus, was sentenced to more than seven years for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute after pleading guilty to the charge on June 27, 2023.

•             On June 23, 2023, Torrez Jenkins, 28, of Jonesboro, Ga., was sentenced to five years in prison for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. He pleaded guilty to the charge on March 6, 2023.
