Fiery crash claims life of young Mobile health care professional

An early Monday crash claimed the life of a young Mobile health care professional, according to Mobile police.

Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to report of a wreck just before 4 a.m. Monday near the entrance to Cimarron Ridge Apartments on Grelot Road near Hillcrest Road. They arrived to find a single vehicle which had overturned and was on fire.

Fire personnel extinguished the flame, reporting one fatality.

Tuesday, Mobile police identified the victim as 23-year-old JaKeira Washington of Mobile.

According to her social media profiles, Washington was a native of Sweet Water, Ala., and had earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration from the University of South Alabama and in August completed her Master’s of Business Administration from the University of West Alabama.

Washington was employed by USA’s Mitchell Cancer Center as a Patient Service Coordinator, a role she began in February while still working on her Masters. She had also worked as a Student Assistant in the IT department and as a Student Research Assistant while studying at South Alabama.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
