9-year-old boy injured in Alabama interstate shooting that killed teen was shot before

Authorities are continuing to investigate a Monday night shooting in Mobile County that killed a 15-year-old girl and injured a 9-year-old boy.

Lori Myles, spokeswoman with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department, said it was the second time the boy was shot by a gunman who was pursing someone else.

Details of the earlier shooting that wounded the 9-year-old were not immediately clear.

The boy remains in stable condition at a local hospital as a result of Monday’s shooting.

Authorities continue to investigate what they call a “rolling shootout” that occurred around 3 p.m. Monday on Interstate 165 at the Bay Bridge Road exits in Prichard.

Authorities were back on the scene Tuesday closing both north and southbound exists on I-165, while they continue to investigate.

A girl was shot and killed during the shootout. The girl was not the intended target of the shooter.

Myles said the 15-year-old and 9-year-old were seated in the middle row of a SUV that was shot at by someone who knew an 18-year-old who was also seated in the middle row of the vehicle.
