Former Alabama receiver Isaiah Bond announces transfer to Texas
Alabama football lost one of its top wideouts to the transfer portal on Sunday. Isaiah Bond, best known for his catch to win the 2023 Iron Bowl, announced his commitment to Texas on social media.
Bond shared the announcement to his Instagram account, in conjunction with Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. He spent two season in Tuscaloosa.
The Buford, Ga. native earned a starting job for the Crimson Tide this past season. He led Alabama with 48 catches for 668 yards and four touchdowns.
One of those scores came in the waning seconds of the Auburn game. Facing fourth-and-goal from the AU 31, quarterback Jalen Milroe found Bond in the back of the end zone on the “Gravedigger” play that won the game and preserved Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes.
On a lesser level, Bond was known for creating a stir during the lead up to the Rose Bowl, when he revealed that the Crimson Tide were told not to watch film individually ahead of the Michigan matchup, due to security concerns. That story continued throughout the week before the game.
Alabama players got an extra 30-day window for transfer portal entry following the retirement of former head coach Nick Saban on Wednesday. Athletics director Greg Byrne asked the players to give him 72 hours to hire a head coach, taking 49 to bring in former Washington HC Kalen DeBoer.
Bond was one of a few to jump into the portal ahead of time. He’ll now be coached by Texas head coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian in the Longhorns’ first season in the SEC.
