The Miami Dolphins put up 70 points and 726 yards in an NFL game this season. But that was almost four months and 90 degrees ago.

With a kickoff temperature of minus-4 degrees at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, Saturday night’s playoff game between the Dolphins and the Chiefs was the fourth-coldest on record in the NFL, and Miami never warmed up to its regular-season standard.

After averaging 401 yards per game during the regular season – the best in the NFL — the Dolphins totaled 264 in a 26-7 first-round loss to Kansas City.

The Chiefs opened the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to wide receiver Rashee Rice on Kansas City’s first possession and ended it on a 3-yard TD run by Isiah Pacheco with 11:06 to play. In between, Harrison Butker kicked four field goals.

Mahomes completed 23-of-41 passes for 262 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, Rashee had eight receptions for 130 yards and Pacheo ran for 89 yards on 24 carries.

Nine players from Alabama high schools and colleges got on the field during the Miami-Kansas City game:

· Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs (Alabama) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Dolphins guard Lester Cotton (Central-Tuscaloosa, Alabama) did not record any stats.

· Dolphins defensive tackle Byron Cowart (Auburn) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Dolphins defensive tackle Raekwon Davis (Alabama) made two tackles.

· Chiefs defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr. (Murphy) was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Dolphins defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand (Alabama) made three tackles and recovered one fumble. Hand came up with a loose football with 1:08 left to play.

· Tyreek Hill (West Alabama) started at wide receiver for the Dolphins. Hill had five receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown. He caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as Miami reduced Kansas City’s lead to 10-7 with 14:01 left in the first half.

· Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun (Samford) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs running back La’Mical Perine (Theodore) did not record any stats.

· Chiefs tight end Gerrit Prince (UAB) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Dolphins outside linebacker Malik Reed (Dothan) made four tackles and recorded one tackle for loss on defense and made one tackle on special teams after joining Miami during the week as a free-agent signing. The Dolphins elevated Reed from the practice squad to make him eligible to play.

· Chiefs wide receiver Justyn Ross (Central-Phenix City) was designated as a game-day inactive. A hamstring injury kept Ross off the field.

· Dolphins wide receiver Anthony Schwartz (Auburn) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) started at quarterback for the Dolphins. Tagovailoa completed 20-of-39 passes for 199 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

· Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (Blount) was designated as a game-day inactive. Hip and ankle injuries kept Toney sidelined for the fourth game in a row.

· Jaylen Waddle (Alabama) started at wide receiver for the Dolphins. Waddle had two receptions for 31 yards and a 9-yard run.

· Chiefs offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho (Edgewood Academy, Auburn) is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Chiefs wide receiver Montrell Washington (Samford) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

Both Kansas City and Miami had 11-6 records in the regular season. The Chiefs must wait for the outcome of the Pittsburgh Steelers-Buffalo Bills game on Monday to get their playoff assignment in the Divisional Round.

If the Bills win, then Kansas City would visit Buffalo. If the Steelers win, the Chiefs would host the Houston Texans. Houston opened the AFC playoffs by beating the Cleveland Browns 45-14 on Saturday.
