Alabama hires Kalen DeBoer: Tracking the move, minute-by-minute

The whirlwind of Alabama’s coaching search ended Friday, less than 48 hours after Nick Saban’s retirement Wednesday.

After little news for the first day of the search, it became clear Friday morning that Washington coach Kalen DeBoer was the main target of Alabama AD Greg Byrne.

After tracking the minute-by-minute moves on Wednesday and Thursday, let’s take a look at how it all went down Friday.

8:00 a.m.: Seattle radio station 99.3-KJR posts a previously scheduled interview with Kalen DeBoer had been canceled.

9:12: Texas announces Steve Sarkisian will remain with the Longhorns as 247Sports reported the school was finalizing a contract extension with the former Alabama offensive coordinator.

10:51: Florida State AD Michael Alford posted a social media an indication they’d reached a new deal with Mike Norvell.

1:00: Saban exits the Alabama football complex, local TV reports on social media.

1:02: ESPN reports Alabama is negotiating a deal with Kalen DeBoer.

2:19: ESPN reports DeBoer informed Washington he’s leaving for Alabama.

5:06: Alabama AD Greg Byrne tweets “The plane has left Seattle” with a picture of white smoke coming from Tuscaloosa BBQ restaurant, Archibald’s.

6:35: The school officially announces DeBoer as the 28th head football coach

7:17: Nick Saban releases a statement on the hiring of DeBoer.

8:37: DeBoer’s plane landed in Tuscaloosa with a crowd of fans cheering.

9:12: The motorcade arrives at the Mal Moore Athletics Complex to meet with the Alabama football team for the first time. He will be officially introduced as the Alabama coach at a 1 p.m. CT Saturday news conference.
