Boyfriend critical after torching RV after fight with girlfriend in Alabama

A Mobile man is on life support after he set fire to a trailer in Baldwin County following a fight with his girlfriend Thursday night, police said Friday.

The girlfriend escaped the trailer unharmed, but a dog and her three puppies were killed in the blaze, Loxley police told WKRG.

Andrew Lersch was arrested early Friday morning without bond on charges of second-degree arson, third-degree domestic violence, aggravated cruelty to animals, resisting arrest and first-degree criminal mischief, Baldwin County jail records showed.

Lersch and his girlfriend were arguing Thursday night when the spat turned physical and the girlfriend left the trailer, police said.

The Mobile man then allegedly poured gasoline on the RV while a dog and her three puppies were inside the trailer in a kennel, authorities said.

Lersch allegedly resisted arrest, damaging police camera equipment and lights in a patrol car totaling $3,000, according to police.

During Lersch’s bond hearing, Baldwin County prosecutors told a judge that he was in the hospital on life support.
