Man gunned down in east Birmingham intersection Tuesday has now died

A man fired on at an east Birmingham intersection earlier this week has died.

Jaqoin Carpenter, 24, was shot early Tuesday afternoon in 500 block of Oporto-Madric Boulevard. He died Thursday at UAB Hospital, Birmingham police announced Thursday night.

The gunfire erupted about 1:10 p.m. at the intersection.

Shot Spotter registered multiple rounds fired in the area and then police received calls of someone unconscious in the driver’s seat of a minivan in an intersection.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said Carpenter was either stopped at the traffic light or proceeding through it when another vehicle pulled up alongside the van and opened fire.
