One Alabama man dead, another in jail after shooting outside Louisiana sports bar
Two men from the Mobile area engaged in an argument at a Louisiana sports bar before one shot and killed the other, according to police in Houma, La.
The Houma Police Department says officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Thirsty Thirty Sports Bar in Houma about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
When they arrived, officers found 39-year-old Marvin Reed of Eight Mile dead from multiple apparent gunshot wounds.
Initial investigation indicated that Reed and another man, identified as 40-year-old Christopher Brett Boutwell of Theodore, were acquaintances and at the bar together. At some point, however, an altercation between the two began and turned physical.
After the fight was broken up, Boutwell reportedly went to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm and shot Reed multiple times before fleeing the scene. Houma patrol units located Boutwell and he was taken into custody without incident.
Boutwell is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond in the Terrebonne Parish (La.) Criminal Justice Complex, charged with 2nd-degree murder. If convicted, he faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, under Louisiana law.
