As difficult as it may seem, it’s just three weeks until Alabama High School Athletic Association basketball area tournaments begin. As is typical, the top teams have made themselves known, but nothing is guaranteed when you’re talking about a tournament sport.

Here’s a look at the AL.com Huntsville area Boys Basketball Power 5 for this week (results through Jan. 6, 2024):

5. Albertville (18-3)

ASWA ranking: Class 7A No. 7

The skinny: Major Deacon is in his first season leading the Aggies, who opened the season 6-0. Albertville lost 73-56 to Cullman in the Coach Mike Dean Turkey Shootout at Cullman, 51-49 at Grissom, and 67-63 to Harrison Central of Gulfport in the Gulf Coast Classic. The Aggies beat Pell City 61-48 and Etowah 65-50 on Thursday and Friday. Albertville is averaging 64.5 points a game and allowing 51.9.
