Troy adds former East Carolina duo through portal
Troy has added transfer portal commitments this week from two former East Carolina players, running back Gerald Green and linebacker RaRa Dillworth.
Green (6-foot, 200 pounds) played four seasons at Georgia Southern before spending the 2023 season with the Pirates. He redshirted in 2019 and got an extra year of eligibility due to COVID in 2020, so he has one season of college football remaining.
Green rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries for an East Carolina team that finished 2-10 in 2023. In his career, the Columbus, Ga., native has totaled 1,557 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Troy must replace Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year Kimani Vidal at running back, as well as all-purpose back Asa Martin. Top backup Damien Taylor — who ran for 361 yards and a touchdown in 2023 — is eligible to return in 2024.

Dillworth (6-2, 195) totaled 21 tackles with one tackle for loss and a pass breakup in seven games for the Pirates in 2023. He previously played two years at North Carolina, and has one season of eligibility remaining.
Dillworth, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., was a four-star recruit in the 2021 signing class. He appeared in 22 games at North Carolina in 2021 and 2022, totaling 19 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Dillworth joins a Troy defense that has been decimated by graduation, the NFL draft and the transfer portal. The Trojans are looking to replace 10 full-time starters from their 2023 team, with only inside linebacker Jordan Stringer is set to return among the team’s nine tacklers.
Troy has also added former Gardner-Webb linebacker Brendan Jackson through the transfer portal. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Jackson, who has one season of eligibility remaining, totaled 71 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and four sacks for the Bulldogs (an FCS playoff qualifier) in 2023.
Troy finished 11-3 in 2023, winning its second straight Sun Belt Conference championship. The Trojans hired former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker as head coach after Jon Sumrall left to take the Tulane job.
