Alabama finishes No. 5 in final AP media top 25 poll of 2023 season
Alabama football finished the 2023 season No. 5 in the Associated Press media top 25 poll. As expected, Michigan, which won the national championship Monday over Washington, was No. 1.
The Wolverines received all 61 first-place votes counted in the poll. UM beat UW 34-13 in Houston Monday, taking home its first title since the 1997 season.
The Huskies finished No. 2, just head of Texas, and Georgia, which jumped two spots to leapfrog the Crimson Tide, despite losing to UA in December. Alabama, which controversially made the College Football Playoff ahead of undefeated Florida State, did not move, as it was also No. 5 in the prior rankings, released on Dec. 3.
The Seminoles, who Georgia blew out in the Orange Bowl after FSU suffered major roster defections, ended the year No. 6 in the AP poll. FSU was tied with Oregon in that spot.
Alabama’s season ended in the semifinal round of the CFP, in the Rose Bowl, where it lost to Michigan 27-20 in overtime. The Crimson Tide, which finished the year 12-2, 9-0 in league play, beat Georgia in the SEC championship game to make it to the CFP.
Missouri finished eighth after winning the Cotton Bowl, and Ole Miss ended the year in ninth. Ohio State, which lost to the Tigers in the Cotton Bowl, rounded out the top 10.
