Alabama school closings for severe weather on Monday, Jan. 8, and Tuesday, Jan. 9

Alabama schools are preparing for bad weather, with south Alabama expecting an enhanced severe weather threat tonight and Tuesday.

Tornadoes, including a few strong ones (EF-2+), wind gusts of 70 mph and 2 to 6 inches of rain will be possible starting Monday night and into Tuesday with two rounds of storms.

High winds expected statewide could cause power outages. The National Weather Service announced a flood warning for three counties in north Alabama for Wednesday and Thursday.

Several school districts in south Alabama announced they’re monitoring the weather and will make a decision about changing dismissal times this afternoon or arrival times Tuesday morning after a lunchtime weather briefing today.

Dale County: Schools closed Tuesday.

Dothan City: Virtual school Tuesday.

Ozark City: E-learning day Tuesday.

Eufaula City Schools and Barbour County schools are closed today and Tuesday after a student was shot on Sunday.
